Anthropomorphizing an apartment.
WORK IN PROGRESS
Designing within an emotional space for a familiar place. Apartment Feelings builds within the constraints of an NYC apartment and expands upon the notion that our environments have a profound effect on us. What if our apartments took on emotions and that changed the space within? How would that change us in turn?
Constraints: To ensure that changes within one apartment don’t effect neighboring apartments the plumbing/electrical, shared walls, windows, and radiators all remain in the same location.
Exploration through five distinct emotional states; Gloom, Peace, Joy, Contrary, Anxiety
PEACE
FLOW-OPENESS-SOFTNESS-NATURAL-LIGHT
LEFT : ORIGINAL
RIGHT : PEACE
Ease of movement through the space with minimal doorways and few sharp corners.
GLOOM
BLEAK-DISMAL-MONOTONOUS-DIM-LONELY
LEFT : ORIGINAL
RIGHT : PEACE
Emphasized repetition within the design and focused on moments of isolation.
JOY
HAPPY-PLAYFUL-CREATIVE-BRIGHT-EASY
LEFT : ORIGINAL
RIGHT : PEACE
Playful shapes and wavy walls enable unique and lively movement through the space.
CONTRARY
CONFLICTING-AWKWARD-DIFFICULT-OBSTRUCTIVE-UNHELPFUL
LEFT : ORIGINAL
RIGHT : PEACE
Slightly angled walls and jutting corners ensures nothing fits quite right in the space.
ANXIETY
APPREHENSIVE-UNEASY-FIDGETY-TENSE-DISJOINTED
LEFT : ORIGINAL
RIGHT : PEACE
Maze like layout with limited sightlines and cramped spaces for a general feeling of unease.
